St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, Wisconsin are bringing some much needed aid to the Palestinian people.
In 2006 through generous donations of artists, donors, and bidders, O-Live! O-Live! raised over $8,000 for Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem. Now in 2008 we hope to raise even more money as conditions have worsened and the need is even greater.
This year to help raise awareness of the Palestinian issue and help bring in more art donations, O-Live! O-Live! opens with a photo essay shown in conjunction with the staging of the play; “My Name is Rachel Corrie” sponsored by Madsion Rafah Sister City Project and the Center for Middle East Studies Program at UW–Madison.
The display is entitled; “Palestine in Focus: three photo essays from the Occupied Territories” Mohammed Omer, Photojournalist; Bruce Burnside, ELCA Bishop; and Jennifer Loewenstein, Associate Director of Middle East Studies Program at UW–Madison and freelance journalist, reveal three views of Palestine. Free and open to the public during regular business hours, two days only, Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8 in the Orpheum Theatre Stage Door Lobby. It is being displayed in conjunction with the play “My Name is Rachel Corrie” at the Orpheum Stage Door Theatre, 7:30 tickets for the play are $5.
Plans for an art show featuring art of Palestinians is in the works. This will be a great addition to this cluster of events surrounding the auction. People will become informed through the art work and it will raise even more awareness of the hardships these people endure daily.
We are currently looking for sponsors to help bring this art to Madison from artists around the world with a sponsorship program. The business commits to helping at least one artist ship their art to and from Madison and insure the artwork while it is here and in transit. Please, if you have a business and are interested in these contact Robin Good.
